Pīrangi tākaro kāri? — Wanna play cards?
Ko au te toa! — I'm the winner!
Kua hinga koe! — You lose!
Tētahi tāhae! — Cheater!
E kore ā muri e hokia! — What's done is done!
Kei a koe! — Your turn!
Huraina ngā kāri! — Shuffle the cards!
Tohaina ngā kāri. — Deal the cards.
He kīngi āu? — Got any kings?
He rauna anō? — Another round?

Use the phrases on the left when you play cards. Record a short video of your group speaking Māori while you play. Share the video with your teacher.

Before you start / Ī mua i te tīmatanga

Make groups of 3–5 students. / Waihangatia he rōpū 3–5 tāngata.
Choose a card game (e.g. Memory, Go Fish, Snap). / Kōwhiria tētahi kēmu kāri.
Set up one device to record. / Whakaritea he pūrere hei hopu ataata.

While you play / I te wā e tākaro ana

Speak only Māori — try to use at least 8 phrases. / Kōrero Māori anake, whakamahia kia 8 rerenga neke atu.
One person counts the phrases. / Kotahi te tangata hei tatau i ngā rerenga.
Be loud and proud! / Kōrero māia, kōrero kaha!
